UTI: telehealth vs in-person GP

When telehealth can help with UTIs, and when you should go in-person or to ED.

Telehealth is appropriate when
  • Classic UTI symptoms without high fever or flank pain.
  • Mild to moderate discomfort, no signs of kidney involvement.
  • Follow-up or repeat UTIs where history is clear.

Telehealth consults start at $40 AUD; medication review next steps discussed where clinically appropriate.

See a GP in person when
  • Symptoms persist or worsen after initial telehealth care.
  • You need a physical exam, urine dip, or in-person cultures.
  • You’re pregnant and have UTI symptoms (discuss with a clinician promptly).
Go to ED/000 immediately if you have
